Spartacus: Rebellion

This, the sequel to the best-selling novel, Spartacus: the Gladiator, takes up the story where the first book ended.

The mighty slave army, led by Spartacus, has carried all before it, scattering the legions of Rome. Three praetors, two consuls and one proconsul have been defeated. Spartacus seems invincible as he marches towards the Alps and freedom.

But storm clouds are massing on the horizon. Crixus the Gaul has defected, taking all his men with him. Crassus, the richest man in Rome, begins to raise a formidable army, tasked specifically with the defeat of Spartacus. And within the slave army itself, there are further murmurings of dissent and rebellion.

Spartacus, on the brink of glory, must make a crucial decision – to go forward over the Alps to freedom, or back to face the might of Rome and try to break its stranglehold on power forever.

(Have you ever thought of writing a purley fictional account of his Son? I have ideas but sadley I am no author and could not give it any Verve)
Looking forward to the next Hanibal,

@plato: Sorry for the delay in replying! Glad you loved Spartacus – I loved writing his story so much. I may well write about his son in the future, I am not sure yet…!

Please do write about his son. I’m pretty sure we can wait for the next. I still haven’t read Rebellion but my friends told me it was Mind-blowing.

    Hi Ben
My stepson has just given me one of your books to read – We both enjoy historical fiction and have read a few other authors about the same subject. So, having just discovered you as an author I will be indulging myself with a host of Ben Kane books. I’m sure I will love them. Best Regards

I Think This Book Was Really good, but I was wondering if you where going to write a third Spartacus.

    Cheers,

  11. Ben Kane says

    10 October 2012 at 09:53

@Riki: Thanks for your comments – glad you enjoyed Rebellion. I do have plans for a Spartacus prequel, yes, but I won’t write it for at least 3-5 years. It’s about him as a boy and a young man. I have no plans to write anything after the rebellion was crushed, as with Spartacus dead, there seems little point. I might write about Carbo and Maron one day, though…

@skippy1pom1/Gary: Thanks for your generous comments and for posting here! Hannibal is the first of 4 books. I’m about 70% done with the sequel, Fields of Blood, which will come out next year. The rest will follow on from there… Sorry you have to wait!

I have just read and enjoyed “Rebellion.” However, I feel I should point out the error in your Notes, on page 391, although I should imagine others have mentioned it to you by now.
You state that Caesar, Crassus and Pompey formed the second triumverate. But of course, this was the first one. The second triumverate was formed in 43BC Mark Antony, Octavian and Lepidus.

    22 October 2012 at 11:16

@FlewDesigns: Cheers for your comment and good wishes. Hannibal 2: Fields of Blood is the next book that will come out, in June 2013…

  17. Ben Kane says

    22 October 2012 at 11:17

@Caesar: Thanks for bringing that to my notice: it was an oversight on my part, not picked up by the editing. It has already been changed for future print runs.

  27. Ben Kane says

    7 January 2013 at 12:41

@Eddi89: Hi, and thanks for posting on my site! I’m delighted to hear that you’re interested in reading my books – I know that historical fiction is popular in Sweden as well. Sadly, as of this moment, I have no foreign rights deal in Sweden. As far as I know, there are no deals in the works either. (I have even contacted a Swedish publisher myself about this – but maybe now I’ll just send them a copy of one of my books. It might work!) Sorry that I can’t help any more. What about reading them in English? Your email is very fluent…
    Best wishes – Ben

    Hello Ben!

I recently bought a Kindle and the first book I got was Spartacus: Rebellion, couldn’t put it down, finished it rather quickly. I want to thank you for writing such a magnificent book. I’ve always been interested in military history and Ancient Rome history in particular and you do an excellent job at writing a story while paying special attention to historical facts, for that reason, I wish to read your other books, the only problem is that the only book available for Kindle in the NA is the aforementioned, which is weird because you have books that were released well before Spartacus, my question is, will these books every be released on Kindle format?, or do I have to buy them on printed paper?, Im asking this because as you could probably imagine, I would prefer it on the Kindle =].

    Thanks!

  35. rortiz says

    3 March 2013 at 23:15

The book I got was actually Spartacus: The Gladiator, don’t know why I got confused there.

@celtic warrior: Thanks for posting! I have a third Spartacus book up my sleeve – a prequel about his childhood and life as a young warrior. My publisher is keen, however, I won’t have the time to get to it for a couple of years at least. I have ideas about Maron and Carbo too…
I hope you can wait that long! Cheers. Ben.

Hello, first off I’d like to express my utmost respect for not only your writing style (which is extremely readable and fluid) but also your love of history to create such great works of literature! I stumbled upon The Forgotten Legion only 3 months ago and instantly fell in love with your beautifully developed and relatable characters! And my extreme interest in Roman history and culture just spiked my interest. Especially, your use of original Latin terms for many objects throughout the series. Since then I’ve finished the trilogy, which instantly became a classic in my mind and have since turned co-workers and family unto the series! I just picked up a copy of Hannibal today, again a fantastic choice of time period to set this series. My question is, I know of course about your Spartacus series (which I plan on picking up soon as well), but for other future novels I was interested to know if you plan on staying in the Pre-Empire period or moving forward in history. Or if you even plan on writing a series set in during the Roman Kingdom/Republic/Empire? Thank you for taking the time to reply! Best wishes to you and your future endeavors!

  48. Ben Kane says

    31 May 2013 at 12:05

@LandoMCFC: welcome to my site, and thanks for your praise! I’m glad you’ve been enjoying my books. I’ll be continuing my Hannibal books in the near future, as well as writing a series set in the Hundred Years’ War. I’ll also be writing a Spartacus prequel, and books about the Varus/Kalkriese disaster in AD 9. That’s as far forward as I can see writing at the moment. I may well go further back into the Republic after that…

I could not put down either of your spartacus books! The gladiator was the first of your books that I have read and I can honesty say it is one of my favourite books I have in my collection. I will be starting on the hannibal series once as soon as I finish the rebellion! Already addicted to your books after reading just two. Keep up the great writing!
