A closely fought race, treachery in a back alley, a visit to the shrine of an Egyptian Goddess. A Roman centurion discovers that Fate will always hold him in her power.
The German frontier, spring 6 BC. When Lucius Cominius Tullus, a recently promoted centurion, gambles on a foot race between rival legionaries, he has no idea that his wager will endanger his very life, and that the streets of an Empire border town can be as deadly as the bloodiest battlefield.
A prequel to Ben Kane’s dramatic new trilogy, Eagles at War, The Shrine also includes a sample chapter from the first book in the series.

@juanrascond: It hasn’t been translated into Spanish, but it will be. My Spanish publishers have taken it on, I believe. Be patient, please, and it should appear soon. Saludos!

Hi Ben. Do you know if this book has already been translated to spanish? If so, where can I find it?
I really loved Eagles at War the first part.

Hi Paco, and thanks for your message. This is a digital only short story – I made it available free for my readers in the UK and elsewhere in the world – I hope that Ediciones B in Spain will do the same…if you can read it in English, go to wattpad.com and look up my name. Saludos – Ben

Hi Ben,
I live in Canada and am wondering if The Shrine will be available to your Canadian readers? Would very much love to read this one as well as The Arena. I’m a huge fan! -Lise

@Lise: Many apologies for not replying until now. You can read the two short stories online at Wattpad – look me up on that website. I’ll also email you the link. Happy New Year!

Hi Ben,
I just stumbled upon your books after reading the historical novels of Cornwell, Iggulden, and Scarrow. Just finished The Forgotten Legion, and must say you’re stories are enveloping and incredible. About to start Eagles at War, as I wait for The Silver Eagle. Do I need to read The Shrine first, or just roll with the E at W? Thanks for the incredible journies to Ancient Rome and beyond!

@Blakedaven: Hi, and thanks for your message. I’m delighted that you enjoyed The Forgotten Legion so much. You don’t ‘have’ to read The Shrine first, but it’s nice to, as it will set you up for Eagles at War. I see from your IP (comes up with your comment on my notifications) that you may be in the USA – if that’s correct, The Shrine isn’t available in the States, because I have no US book deal for those books…however, I have uploaded it to the online writing platform wattpad.com – just go there and look up my name, and you’ll find it, and The Arena, which is the free digital prequel to the second Eagles book, Hunting the Eagles. Thanks again, and please spread the word about my books to as many people as you can! Best wishes – Ben
